Advertisment and Reviews: The Future of Problematic Reviews

Welcome back, internet travelers! Yes, it has been quite a while since I've published anything or even participated in forums and other FiM Fiction communities. Unfortunately, I've been busy with school work and, recently, looking for work. That leads straight to what we'll be talking about today. I've recently taken a decision I'm not too comfortable with and would, under any other circumstances, do everything within my power to avoid. I have made the decision put advertisements on my work. Subsequently, there is some news regarding reviews. I explain my situation, the events that lead to this decision regarding ads, and my stance on it below the break.

Amy Clockwork’s Situation

As mentioned above, I am not fond of advertising for several reasons which I will explain later. So why did I move to monetize this website? Well, many of you know that I've been reluctant to share many parts of my family life and rightfully so. I am someone who enjoys my privacy and would rather audiences enjoy my work than to desire to learn more about me. While I still stand next to my opinion, my hobby has become one of the most influential forces in my life. As a result, it has become increasingly important to share my living condition and how it affects my work. So without further ado, this is how my situation has looked like as of late: My sister and I are busy with our studies and my single mother is a part-time student with a full-time job. I've been trying to find a part-time job with little success. As you might imagine, these factors are contributing to increasing stress at home. To add to that, my medical condition has worsen as made evident by a visit to the emergency room. I respect my family’s privacy and wishes so I must not tell you more than that. Right now, more than ever, my family and I need money for growing expenses. As this is the only thing I do other than study that doesn’t get my family any income, I felt it was more important to help my family than to avoid a little discomfort.

Why Ads on Problematic Reviews Make Me Uncomfortable

Well, first and foremost, they don't only make me uncomfortable, they make everyone reading my work uncomfortable. That’s possibly the most uncomfortable thing for me: the fact that my needs make someone’s browsing experience uncomfortable. Advertisements can be loud, disgustingly explicit, and downright annoying. Adblock does a great job at eliminating something that could easily inconvenience your browsing experience and, while I don't use it myself, I respect anyone's decision to use it.

However, if you enjoy my reviews or any of the other work I do and don't mind momentarily inconveniencing yourself, I would appreciate it you could support me. If you do use AdSense, I would be extremely grateful it if you could disable it for my site.

So, where are the reviews?

My last review on ToixStory’s Freeze Frame came out in late October of last year. That makes it nearly five months (!!!) since I've published a review. While I'm going through a rough time right now, my main goal is to get back to reading fan fiction and publishing round two of FiM Fiction Reviews before the end of the year and finish with something similar to Stories Back From the Read. There’s a lot of work to do and I'll keep you updated on when and what I’m planning to do. I'll also try my hardest to get the latest review finished this week. Until then, thanks for reading and I'll see you guys later.

  1. I understad how you feel, and share your distate for advertisements. I could write a long, involved post about my feelings and opinions, but I think I can be more effective with just a few sentences:

    Monetize that sucker!!!!

I don't like adds, but I think that your getting paid for them is great. Having to see them is a very small price to pay for having them pay you a price. Go for it and don't look back.

Thanks again for doing your thing.

    Be well.

  2. Eh, you gotta do what you gotta do. If this site become one with five pop-up ads that auto play, that will be something that will drive me away, but almost every site I visit has ads. It's just part of the internet. If it's helping you make ends meet, so be it.
